From New York to New Orleans: Alembic Updates

A shared commitment to community-serving uses continues to guide Alembic’s work, and we’re fortunate to engage with many of the same mission-aligned partners across projects. That throughline was visible this month as The Eliza was named a Mixed-Use Finalist in Affordable Housing Finance’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards. The 174-unit affordable housing development also includes the redeveloped 20,000-square-foot Inwood Library, an early childhood education center, a STEM robotics hub, and Emma’s Torch, a nonprofit offering culinary training for refugees.

Our partners on the HEArts Center—the Mott Haven–Port Morris Community Land Stewards—visited Emma’s Torch’s Brooklyn location to explore how similar programming could help shape the HEArts Center, where construction is expected to begin in early 2026.

Meanwhile, Betances—another Alembic project in the Bronx, designed with Think! Architecture and Design—was recently recognized in The Architect’s Newspaper.

That same commitment is central to our work in New Orleans, where construction is now 50% complete on two mixed-use projects that include early childhood education components. This summer, Jon and Nicole presented at the second annual For Providers by Providers conference, highlighting how Federal New Markets Tax Credits made both the Louisiana Avenue Firehouse and Wilcox Academy Central City developments possible.
